German cockroaches are one of the biggest pests we treat and recently we have notice a spike in the calls we are getting to control them in houses across Sydney. Control of this pest is best left to the professional pest controller. The reason being is that this pest has a rapid breeding cycle and is very good at exploiting cracks and crevices that can be hard to find. You need to understand their habits very well to manage them effectively.
Once the infestation becomes quite large these pests start to run out of their preferred hiding places (cracks and crevices) and they can become easier to find and seen on a more regular basis. They will start to be seen in the day time and in areas where there’s not too much food and water like bedrooms. If you’re seeing these pests in areas of your home other than the kitchen, laundry or bathrooms than you probably have a decent infestation in your place.
We attended one such place recently that had quite a large infestation of German Cockroaches. The customer said they started seeing these small cockroaches in the kitchen a few of times per week so they went and bought some products from the supermarket and attempted to manage the problem. This didn’t work and the problem got to a point where they were seeing dozens of these cockroaches each day so they called Amalgamated Pest Control.
How to control German Cockroaches
The first step is an inspection starting in the kitchen and then in a methodical manner working around the home. It is important with this pest to understand the extent of the infestation and known and potential hiding areas of these pests.
Once the inspection is complete we need to treat all of the cracks and crevices in which they are hiding. These can be found all around the house for example under sinks and in cupboards and many other places. It is important that no hiding place is missed. This will only mean control is not effective or will take much longer.
Where do cockroaches hide?
We also need to inspect electrical items. Everyone knows that cockroaches love warmth and dark hiding places. Items like fridges, toasters, kettles and clocks are ideal for this place. One other item that is highly favoured is the dishwasher. The picture below was taken from the house mentioned. You can see just how many cockroaches have called it home. Dishwashers are perfect. They hold food crumbs, moisture and warmth. An ideal breeding area. Luckily we have products and equipment to safely treat these areas.
We also need to treat confined voids with specialised equipment and we move around the home ensuring that every possible area these pests are living or can live are treated and protected.
